Sunil J. Panchal, M.D.

Sunil J. Panchal, MD, was previously Associate Professor in the Departments of Oncology and Anesthesiology and Director of Interventional Pain Medicine at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute of the University of South Florida College of Medicine in Tampa, Florida.  Prior to that he served as Co-Director of the Chronic Pain Service as well as Director of the Multidisciplinary Pain Fellowship Training Program at Johns Hopkins University and subsequently as Director, Division of Pain Medicine at the Joan and Sanford I. Weill Medical College of Cornell University in New York. Dr Panchal received his medical degree from Albany Medical College of Union University in Albany, New York.  Dr. Panchal performed a residency in anesthesiology at Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois and then completed a fellowship in pain management at the University of Illinois in Chicago. He also completed the Business of Medicine Graduate Program at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland.

Dr. Panchal has held leadership responsibilities in many professional societies, including the Committee for Pain Medicine for the American Society of Anesthesiologists. Dr. Panchal also served on the Board of Directors for the American Academy of Pain Medicine. He served two terms on the Board of Directors of the Eastern Pain Association, was President-elect of the Association of Pain Program Directors, and Chair of the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine scientific program committee as well the American Academy of Pain Medicine scientific program committee.  Dr Panchal has authored and co-authored a number of abstracts, journal articles, and book chapters. He currently serves as an invited editorial reviewer for Clinical Researcher, Anesthesia and Analgesia, Pain, Pain Medicine, and the Clinical Journal of Pain. He previously served as Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Pain Medicine and Palliative Care and of Seminars in Pain Medicine. He also is an editor for the textbook, Comprehensive Treatment of Chronic Pain by Medical, Interventional, and Integrative Approaches. Dr.  Panchal also served as the Chair of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network Cancer Pain Panel and has lectured widely at the national and international level and is sought after as an expert for minimally invasive spine surgery, regenerative medicine, and interventional pain procedures. He is actively involved in the development of novel analgesics and neurostimulation devices, and in clinical research protocol design.
